Psalm 118:8-9 says:
It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in man.
It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in princes (vv. 8-9).
That’s the theme of the rest of the song. In verses 10-14, the writer speaks of being surrounded by hostile nations:
But the LORD helped me. The LORD is my strength and song, and He has become my salvation.
And in verse 21:
I shall give thanks to You, for You have answered me; and You have become my salvation.
Then there is a passage quoted by Jesus in the gospels to the opposing Jewish leaders:
The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief corner stone.
This is the LORD’s doing; it is marvelous in our eyes (vv. 22-23).
And one more prayer of praise and trust in the LORD:
This is the day which the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.
O LORD, do save, we beseech You; O LORD, we beseech You, do send prosperity (vv. 24-25)!
The passage highlights two reasons why we / I do not see the great works of the LORD in our lives:
- we do not call upon Him to work; or even when we do, we trust in ourselves and not in Him to accomplish it; and 2)
- we often do not have our eyes open to see what He is doing – another indication of our lack of trust in Him.
At the end of today, ask yourself: What is one “marvelous” thing that I saw God do today?
Yours and His,
